‘We are – created in Yeshua Hamashiach to do good works!’ Ephesians 2:10 (NKJV)
The Bible tells us this: ‘For by grace you have been saved through faith. For we are His workmanship, created in Yeshua Hamashiach to do good works, which Yehovah prepared beforehand that we should walk in them’ (Ephesians 2:8-10 NKJV). What an incredible thought! You are Yehovah’s workmanship, His crafting. Your very existence is as a result of His plans, creative ability and grace – it is not based on what you do, or on your performance. When Yehovah made Adam, was it so that Adam could sit in the Garden of Eden making daisy chains – No! There was a purpose to His existence. He was to manage the garden; Yehovah gave Adam responsibility over what belonged to Him, and Adam found fulfilment in managing and caring for it. You can imagine what it was like to tend Eden: sowing, harvesting, pruning and developing; so you can understand that there was an outflow, a produce, to the life Yehovah created for him. These verses in Ephesians show that there is meant to be an outflow to your life too. You have been created for good works, and like Adam, you have been positioned to look after what belongs to Yehovah. Today, it is no longer Eden you must tend, but His present-day kingdom, and the communities all around it. It is so exciting when you realise that Yehovah made you for a purpose, not just to sit in a building on Shabbat and await Yeshua’ return! A revelation of grace never produces laziness. Instead it produces effective and purposeful living that is rooted in the knowledge of the finished work of Yeshua.
