‘Yehovah is our refuge and strength.’ Psalm 46:1(NIV)

Yehovah is your refuge! It’s amazing where people retreat to, to feel safe when they are under pressure, or under threat, but believers can hide in Him. The expression ‘Yehovah is my refuge’ is found numerous times throughout the book of Psalms. It was a very real experience for both the Hebrews and early believers: ‘Oh, how great is Your goodness, which You have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men! You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues’ (Psalm 31:19-20). Yehovah is a secure place; a secret place, where you can find Shalom in Him. He is also your strength. When you are unable, Yehovah is more than able. In the Beatitudes, Yeshua said, ‘blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven’ (Matthew 5:3). Yehovah spoke to Paul on the same subject: ‘He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Yeshua’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Yeshua’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong’ (2 Corinthians 12:8-10). It is easy to see areas of weakness in yourself, but do you surrender them to Yehovah’ Do you allow Him to be your strength? Is your life hidden in the secret place with Him?
