“For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.” Psalm 61:3

My old friend David has said, “Yehovah has a way of speaking to us in so many ways. For example, when I am facing a problem bigger than me and He whispered one word to me ‘GOSHEN.’ This was the place where the children of Israel were kept safe from plagues. Moments later I realised that Yeshua is my GOSHEN, my safe place, my hiding place, where no evil can befall me and no weapon formed against me shall prosper.”

That reminds us of another David who, in Psalm 32:7, says ‘Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.’ And in Psalm 119:114, ‘Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in Thy word.’ King David certainly had his weaknesses, faults and failures. And yet, through the prophet Samuel, Yehovah called him a ‘man after (His) own heart.’ (1 Samuel 13:14). Why, knowing David was not a perfect and sinless man, would Yehovah give Him such an endorsement? Could it be because David kept short accounts with Yehovah over his weakness and tendency to sin? (See 2 Samuel 12:13 and Psalm 51). David knew he only had one place he could run to in times of weakness, sin, threat and danger, and that is where he ran for comfort, grace and mercy. In Psalm 71:3 he declares, ‘Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.’ And in Psalm 144:2 ‘My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and He in whom I trust; who subdues my people under me.’ Where do you run to at such times? Have you learned He is your “Goshen”, rock, shield, deliverer, high tower and your fortress? Yehovah will sustain and protect you from all evil – so run into His loving arms today.
